Toddler Squares

SQUARE (noun): a shape with 4 sides of equal length; (verb): to settle or make even

“You can’t fit a round peg in a square hole.” – American proverb

"A round egg can be made square according to how you cut it; words would be harsh according to how you speak them.” – Japanese proverb

“Square meals often make round people.” – E. Joseph Kossman

“In the total expanse of human life, there is not a single square inch of which Christ, Who alone is sovereign, does not declare, ‘That is mine!’” – Abraham Kuyper

“When I have pointed out one corner of a square to anyone and he does not come back with the other three, I will not point it out to him a second time.” – Confucius

“I’d rather know a square guy than own a square mile.” – Wilson Mizner

“There is no neutral ground in the universe; every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counter-claimed by Satan.” – C.S. Lewis

October’s shape of the month was the square! This was the art project we made to go in our portfolios.

Running with an idea from Teach Preschool, I taped off squares on our papers with painter’s tape – one of my favorite art tools! Then, instead of precisely painting each square a different color (we know how that would go with toddlers!), we fingerpainted over the entire grid.

To make it a little more interesting, we mixed red and yellow to make our color of the month too.

There was scratching and rubbing, glopping and smearing. Oh, it was glorious!

I love how you can see different shades of orange in the finished product.

Stay tuned for more art ideas for many more shapes!
