Flag Cake

For all my readers in or from the United States of America, the 4th of July is fast approaching! Here’s a classic family favorite that is easy to make and fun to eat!

Blast from the past – we were making this way back in 1994! (That’s me on the right.)

All you need is a white cake mix, a tub of whipped topping, strawberries, and blueberries.

Prepare the white cake mix according to the box, then top with a fairly thick layer of whipped topping. Arrange blueberries in upper left corner to be like the “stars” in the flag. (OK, I know the American flag has a blue background with white stars, but we’re using blueberries here.)

Then arrange halved strawberries in “stripes” (again, there won’t be 13 stripes, but hey, they’re strawberries).

Our cake a couple years ago was more closely spaced together, allowing for closer to 50 blueberries.

Now the only question is who gets the lucky slices that contain both strawberries and blueberries? (Hint: have more blueberries and strawberries on hand to serve with each slice.)

Hooray for the red, white, and blue!
