Monday Meals: Basil Orange Pork Chops

It’s another awesome recipe that we originally found in the Taste of Home Busy Families cookbook. As is evidenced by the title, the primary flavors added to these pork chops are basil and orange! The flavors come together in perfect harmony to create something unique and delectable.

The ingredients are simple.

The pork chops get cooked with the onion and oil first.

Then comes the orange! I guess it would have been easier to grate it directly over the meat, but oh well.

The first time we made this, it seemed like way too much basil, but do all 2 teaspoons’ worth!

Add cornstarch and water to thicken up the orange juice. (We just left the pork chops in the pan, even though the original recipe said to remove them for this step.)

And in half an hour you have these yummy basil orange pork chops! We served them with mashed potatoes and a yummy veggie combination – carrots, kale, onions, celery, and garbanzo beans.

Basil Orange Pork Chops (from Taste of Home)

4 boneless pork loin chops

1 green onion, sliced

1 tbsp. vegetable oil

1 cup orange juice

1 tbsp. grated orange peel

2 tsp. dried basil

2 tsp. cornstarch

2 tsp. water

  1. In a large skillet, brown pork chops and onion over medium heat in oil. Stir in the orange juice, peel, and basil. Bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat; cover and cook 10-15 minutes until meat juices run clear. Remove chops and keep warm.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch and water until smooth; add to skillet. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Serve with the chops.
