Once upon a time when the urge struck us to make cookies, we
were flipping through our cookbook and found this recipe. Oatmeal raisin
cookies plus molasses? Yes! We even substituted a few things to make it even
healthier! Still delicious though.
The only problem was it required a little guesswork to
complete. Luckily for you (and us), we were up to the challenge! Further below
you will find a detailed, easy-to-follow recipe to rival this handwritten gem.
Lots of ingredients, but oh so worth it!
Isn’t brown sugar a derivative of molasses? In any case, the
first step is to mix some together!
Then come the remaining wet ingredients – applesauce (which we
substituted for shortening), milk, and eggs.
Next is the flour (we did whole wheat flour).
Now the batter is getting stiffer!
The rest of the dry ingredients: salt, baking powder, and some
cinnamon and cloves just for some spiciness!
When everything is pretty well-combined, stir in the oatmeal.
And the last ingredient is the raisins!
Then onto a cookie sheet they go!
I love my silpat baking sheet.
Just for comparison, the cookies on the left were on a greased
cookie sheet, but the cookies on the silpat sheet came off clean as a whistle.
These cookies were a delicious blend of sweetness and
spiciness, and they even tasted kinda healthy!
