Friday Pie-Day: Cranberry Pie

Quintessentially Christmasy and pleasantly tart, this pie is one of my favorites. It is also one of the simplest pies I have made in these 4years of pie-making endeavors.

The ingredients are simple too… and probably all you will need to buy is the cranberries.

Unless you are like me and buy 10 bags of cranberries as soon as they are in season and freeze them to use all year…

Cranberries are one of my favorites, and they taste even better frosted… with sugar!

Orange zest adds another dimension to this pie!

And here are all the ingredients before they were stirred together. Mmmm…

Literally the directions in this recipe are to combine all the ingredients and throw them into the pie crust. So… that’s what we did!

Lattice tops make it more fun though.

This pie is becoming a Christmas tradition for our family – it is coupled beautifully with some French silk pie. A great twist on this pie is adding apples – it tastes like wassail! But straight up cranberries (and sugar) taste amazing!

And as cooked cranberries explode in your mouth, you will smile and get that warm Christmasy feeling inside.

Cranberry Pie

2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries

1 ½ cups sugar

2 T. all-purpose flour

1 tsp. vanilla

½ cup water

1 tsp. grated orange peel

  1. Combine all ingredients and pour filling into pie shell.
  2. Top with lattice crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until crust is golden brown.
