  1. Hello again Kirsten, I see you have quite a collection of yummy pies. :) And also that you are a fan of Disney as am I. This may seem random but have you ever considered or ever heard of making "Ruby Slippers" pie?. I'll explain. There are these berries known as Ruby Silver berries, also known as "autumn olive berry," that are sweet and tangy and are quite rare. The berries are a bright Crimson red with tiny silver speckles covered all over, literally, no joke. It literally looks as if someone sprinkled silver dust all over the bright red berries. They are absolutely gorgeous. They look and remind me of the famous Ruby slippers seen in the movie The Wizard of Oz (this year marks the 75Th anniversary of the film) and Disney's Return to Oz since the berries are red and sparkle in the sun like the famous shoes. Being a fan of the film, and of plants, pies, and berries, I bought a pair of Ruby silver berry Autumn Olive plants since I have to grow the berries myself being that I can't find them in stores or anywhere. If you are interested you can buy a few of your own at Rolling River Nursery.com. At there home page to the left you will see a tab that says, "Berries and Fruiting Bushes," Then scroll down and click on "Goumi and Autumn Olive." You will then see a photo that reads "Autumn Olive (Eleagnus Umbellate) click on the photo and scroll and you will see a variety of Autumn Olive berries. I chose the "Ruby" variety since they are bigger than most, sweet and produce in abundant, perfect for making pies, tarts, jam and fruit leather. They berries are also not to be confused with olives since they not related to actual olives, but only resemble the plants slighlty since the leaves look somewhat similar. The plants themselves are gorgeous and very majecstic looking. They have dark jade green leaves and the leaves are sliver underneath. I planted mine in containers so I can control the size. Although I have never tried the berries myself I heard they taste like a combination of apple, raspberry and cranberry. I can not wait until they fruit! :)
